This year's festival was the best one yet and drew a record number of attendees and bands. I’ve been attending the festival since the second year of its existence and it has become an annual destination of mine. The showcases feature indie and veteran bands from across Canada, select cities in the U.S. and from around the globe.
Local and major media latched on and the rest is history. We'd like to send a hearty !!!!!!!!!!!!!!CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! out to Chris and we wish him all the success in the world. Now start folding those boxes Badynee!

MB Welcomes Union Avenue

The next thing you notice is the exquisite guitar work of Lenny Earls (we're told the son of legendary Sun Records 1950’s recording artist Jack Earls). Finally, you notice your foot is tapping, your head is bobbing and your body's wervin' to the funky rhythm of "Catfish" - which nearly has you out of your chair. By the time "All Your Loving" rolls on out you've made up your mind to go see this band live because it's been much too long since you've gone out dancing - and you just know the serious blues dancers are going to be following these guys around (you know, the ones with the white patent-leather shoes, the button-down, long-sleeve shirts with contrasting checkered polyester slacks circa-1970 and the ladies in any dress that accentuates their twirl). But even if you're not a fan of the blues, don't you forget to bring your dancin' shoes because Union Avenue can nail rock, reggae and country too.

Emergenza Showcase Review by Severance

"Emergenza is a annual musical showcase that claims to be searching for the best unsigned band in the world. They talk a big game and even look legit on face value. You submit a $70 fee to get in and they come back and supply you with strings and drum sticks. It's a showcase that is sponsored by Sony, Mapex, D'addario etc.. With bands competing in over 20 different nations for the "chance" to play in front of record label A&Rs

The problem a lot of bands had with the competition and I'm speaking on behalf of Severance, This Last Breath and Stereotipikal (all Detroit finalists) - Emergenza failed to live up to what it originally set out to do. First, they set ridiculous ticket prices, $15 a ticket. They kept all the money from ticket sales for themselves - not paying a single band for crowd they brought in or their performances. We're talking about pocketing a good $5000+ per show. Emergenza also did not promote the show in any way shape or form. Hell, bands had to even pay to get into the parking lot for their own show!
