mitch writes It's been years now since we closed the forums - which was probably not the smartest thing to do in the age of "social networking". But they sucked a lot of time and energy due to abuse, spammers, malcontents, etc.. We didn't have the time to babysit bandheads to make sure they treated one another with courtesy and respect. It's that lack of trust and solidarity, I'm convinced, that has led our country, and this website, to the sorry state they are in today. But there are a few true believers out there who, despite their better interest, continue to fight the good fight for local music. One of those people, Jeff (Wiki) of MichiganMusicians.com, has volunteered to do what we refuse to do - moderate the forums. There's a few bugs to work out yet, but watch for their return. - Mitch

| Music Review: Weapons Of Mass Percussion by The Process |
|
|
The anticipation of hearing new music from The Process came loaded with expectations based entirely on 2002's "Blood & Bones", a great collection of reggae gems that I put among the best local records I've heard in the past ten years. So I couldn't help but hope for a repeat performance on their 2006 follow-up, "Weapons of Mass Percussion". And a repeat performance is pretty much exactly what I got - just not in the way I expected. -Mitch

faith148 writes On September 29, 2007, 12-year-old Vinnie Ocelnik died in a tragic car accident near his home. Now, Detroit is coming together for one special night. WRIF presents Rockin’ for Vinnie, a 12-hour benefit concert and rock auction on Saturday, November 3 starting at 1 pm at The Ritz in Warren. The proceeds will go to the Vincent Ocelnik Memorial Fund to help his family cover the funeral and medical costs.
Vinnie Ocelnik was the son of Beth Ocelnik of CB Entertainment in Warren. Beth is a much-loved and well-respected booking agent in Detroit’s hard rock/metal scene and when her friends at WRIF heard the news, they immediately wanted to help.
“Our hearts go out to Beth, her husband and their family over the loss of Vinnie,” said WRIF program director Doug Podell. “I have worked closely with Beth through The Ritz. Beth is like family and it feels as if we have lost one of our own.”

| Egyptian-inspired progmetal rockers Dendura sign to KillZone Records in Austin |
|
faith148 writes KillZone Records of Austin, TX, a notable indie label that specializes in metal music, signed local rockers Dendura, the female-fronted, Egyptian-inspired, progressive metal band with belly dancers (Got all that?), to a one-album deal on their label.
“Dendura is a perfect fit for KillZone because they stand out from the norm in terms of talent, ability and marketability,” said Stuart Banks, president of KillZone Records. “They present an unforgettable approach to progressive metal that builds and weaves dark themes with the allure of sensual mystery. Their music calls from a past that touches both the primal and inquisitive nature of our souls. They combine powerful, heavy music that drives like the shifting sands, carrying vocals like rising smoke and invoking the ghosts of a land and time long passed, but never forgotten."
