| Emergenza Showcase Review by Severance |
-severance- writes "Emergenza is a annual musical showcase that claims to be searching for the best unsigned band in the world. They talk a big game and even look legit on face value. You submit a $70 fee to get in and they come back and supply you with strings and drum sticks. It's a showcase that is sponsored by Sony, Mapex, D'addario etc.. With bands competing in over 20 different nations for the "chance" to play in front of record label A&Rs
The problem a lot of bands had with the competition and I'm speaking on behalf of Severance, This Last Breath and Stereotipikal (all Detroit finalists) - Emergenza failed to live up to what it originally set out to do. First, they set ridiculous ticket prices, $15 a ticket. They kept all the money from ticket sales for themselves - not paying a single band for crowd they brought in or their performances. We're talking about pocketing a good $5000+ per show. Emergenza also did not promote the show in any way shape or form. Hell, bands had to even pay to get into the parking lot for their own show!

| Happy Independence Day Bandheads |
Happy Independence Day Michigan Bandheads! Today we celebrate not just our break with Great Britain some 231 years ago, but our independence from all forms of tyranny and oppression, including those imposed on us and all peace-loving people by violent political ideologies and religions. We'll declare our independence from the shortsightedness of the FCC for not insisting on more local programming and local music on the public airwaves. We'll declare our independence from the global economy which continues to export our jobs and drag our standard of living into the toilet. We'll celebrate the independent spirit that is manifest through local independent music. We'll affirm a new dedication to localism, starting with the music performances we attend. With that said, check our calendar for an event near you or, better yet, submit one of your own. - Mitch

| SUPPORT YOUR BLUES MEN AND WOMEN |
bulletbob writes Bands come and band go. Yep, that's the truth. But the blues guys always remain. Why? They're not out to rip off anything. They just love to play from the soul and have a good time and they don't care if they "make it". As far as being famous or rich, it's a long way to the top if you wanna rock, but it's a lot more fun at the bottom. Really give a listen to these bands and support their shows 'cause you can always learn something new and borrow fromt the blues - as we all have. So give something back and give your support to the blues. Thanks - Bullet Bob

| Communication Can Make You Or Break You by Vince Smith |
vincenttwice writes If there's one constant in the music business, it's that you have to be good with people to get anywhere. You have to talk to agents, managers, club owners, fans, record execs, promoters, and of course your own bandmates, and you need to learn how to be good at communicating in any given situation if you want to achieve success as an artist. Effective communication begins with knowledge. You have to know, or at least SOUND like you know what you're talking about in order to convince the other person or organization that you're worth taking seriously. Click "Read More" below.

| Have Michigan Musicians Lost the Battle? |
zen_blues_dog writes Michigan musicians are losing the battle for live music engagements. More and more the clubs are buying into the DJ / kar aoke syndrome.
Look in any entertainment section in any newspaper and count the number of clubs that used to have "Live" music that now feature DJs and Karaoke. Don't look good does it? But why have these clubs turned on the hard working musician? Click "Read More" below.

| Where are the Booking agents? |
Zen_Blues_Dog writes It seems like forever since we had real booking agents, who were actively looking for talent to book.
Musicians play music, that is what they do best, and that is what they should be doing, playing the music. Booking agents should book those musicians and their bands. However, there are very few [if any] any REAL booking agents out there any more. . . Click "Read More" below.

| Why you should support the The Webcaster Alliance |
sonicdisturbance writes A group of Internet Radio Stations have banded together to protect their ability to broadcast independent music online without going broke due to artificial economic barriers created by R.I.A.A. and their friends in corporate radio. I'd like to share with you a few reasons why I think we all need to support the The Webcaster Alliance and their fight against the R.I.A.A. Your access to a wider market in the future as an independent artist is at stake. Click "Read More" below.
